Fashion In Detroit Announces Local Fashion Designer Competition

DETROIT, Aug. 6 -- Fashion In Detroit (FID) - Michigan's premier fashion event - is giving one talented Michigan-based fashion designer a grant to showcase his or her fall/winter 2010 collection to buyers and fashion industry insiders at the March 2010 FID event.

In addition to a confirmed time slot at the March 2010 shows, the $2,500 designer fee will be waived.

The contest is open to both students and established designers. To enter, send a cover letter, resume and photos of five different designs (showing both full-length and details for each design) to info@fashionindetroit.com by midnight, Sept. 1, 2009. The winner will be announced on Oct. 2, 2009 during the Fashion In Detroit spring/summer 2010 event.

Fashion In Detroit is a biannual, two-day fashion event created by Project Runway's Joe Faris to put a fashion spotlight on Michigan and create a venue that fills the needs of many locally based designers and the Michigan fashion community. The first FID event will take place October 1 & 2, 2009 in a tented, high-end setting at the Detroit Zoo, in Royal Oak, Michigan.

The two-day event will include 12 runway shows by a collection of local and national designers, a VIP private reception, an Afterglow bash with top-name rock concert and "Made In Michigan" product displays. Each day's admission ticket includes six fashion shows, gift bags, a souvenir guidebook/lookbook and eligibility for high-end giveaways.

Situated between the dates of New York Fashion Week and LA Fashion Week, Fashion In Detroit will feature top models showcasing the best designs of Spring/Summer 2010 on a 60-foot runway in a spacious tent with VIP seating, risers and standing room for 500 buyers, fashion industry insiders and VIP guests each day.
