The Weather Channel Celebrates Earth Day with Special Programming Sunday, April 22

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On Sunday, April 22, The Weather Channel will celebrate the 37th year of Earth Day with two new episodes of Forecast Earth.

At 5 p.m. ET, Forecast Earth will tag along on Sheryl Crow's "Stop Global Warming tour," talk with environmental activist Laurie David, and look at the state of today's environment by visiting three parts of the country:

* Texas, where energy company TXU's recently announced plans to build nuclear power plants, threaten to position the state as the country's "climate ground zero";

*Pennsylvania, where a forward-thinking company is developing technology that keeps coal on the table ... but this time, it's cleaner; and

*California, where one city's proactively turning it's business and homeowners green ... one street at a time!

The show will also feature comments from President George W. Bush, former Vice President Al Gore and U.S. Senator James Inhofe.

At 5:30pm ET, the second new episode of Forecast Earth will find prominent figures from both sides of the global warming issue debating several of the most frequent arguments made by the global warming skeptics, including the number one complaint: "If forecasters can't predict the weather 3-days out, certainly they can't forecast a year, a decade or a century out!

"Earth Day is very important to us and our viewers," said Debora Wilson, president of The Weather Channel Companies. "This year, the focus of our coverage will be on exploring the biggest mysteries of our Earth's climate system and informing viewers what they can do to facilitate improvements in their environment. In addition to the new episodes of Forecast Earth, we'll have live reports all day from our correspondents in Chicago, Washington DC and New York City."

Some Earth Friendly things I like to do:

1. Nix styrofoam cups and bring your own coffee mug or traveling mug to work or school. If possible to your favorite coffee place if ordering regular coffee.

2. Take shorter showers.

3. Turn the water off while waiting for your deep conditioner to work.

4. Buy lower voltage or energy saver lightbulbs, which will use less electricity. Always turn off lights when you leave or if your not using them.

5. Bike or walk when possible to keep in shape and cut down on auto emissions.

6. Cut up six-pack can rings before you throw them out: They can strangle animals.

7. Give an ecological gift such as adopt a whale, for someone's birthday.

8. Boycott companies that disregard the environment. Tell them in a letter.

9. Bring your own bag(s), when buying small amounts from the grocery store.

10. Buy organic and recycled products.

11. Turn off computer, TV, etc., when not in use.

I always try to turn off the water when I brush my teeth.
