Clutter = Big Business

by Lifestye Guru

A trend that seems to keep growing is organizing whether buying books, supplies, stores or watching TV shows. According to the US News and World Report, the average person spends one year of their life looking for lost or misplaced items at home and in the office.

Clutter is bringing in billions of dollars each year. There are hundreds if not thousands of books on de-cluttering and organizing for the home, office and car. There are so many stores that carry supplies to organize your life. Speciality stores were created to fill this demand such as The Container Store and California Closets. A career that grew from all of our clutter is professional organizers. They help people clear out their clutter and help them organize their spaces in a more effecient way.

Magazines are focusing more on de-cluttering for example many magazines now have a organizing page or two in each issue. Cosmopolitan actually have articles about organizing and simplifying your life.

Some of my favorite de-cluttering shows are: Neat (Discovery Home), Clean House (The Style Network) and Mission Organization (Home and Garden TV).

I almost forgot the other areas that clutter is benefitting:

1) Storage facilities are racking in money because people want to clear out their spaces but they don't really want to toss or give them away.

2) Charitable organizations such as Goodwill, Dress for Success, Salvation Army, etc people are taking in their gently used items to help out those less fortunate and to clear away the clutter.

3) Consignment shops, they make a small profit off the items you sell.

4) E-bay

5) Stores in general, because most of the time you misplace items and then have to go out and buy them again.
