SEATTLE -- Leading fashion specialty retailer Nordstrom opened the doors to its new 122,000 square foot store in Santa Monica, Calif. Friday, Aug. 27th at Santa Monica Place. The three-level store features a great mix of clothing, accessories, shoes and cosmetics for women, men and children.
Customers can shop a well-edited selection of quality, luxury and designer fashion brands from progressive designers such as Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Elizabeth and James, Halston Heritage, Current Elliot for Marni and Rag & Bone. To complement this offering, the store also offers Marc Jacobs, Jimmy Choo, and Dolce & Gabbana handbags, as well as footwear from Giuseppe Zanotti, Manolo Blahnik, Valentino and Burberry.
Nordstrom at Santa Monica Place also offers services to enhance the shopping experience. These amenities include in-store alterations and tailor shop, certified bra and prosthesis fitters, and Personal Stylist -- a complimentary wardrobe and shopping service. The store will also feature two food offerings: a Blue Stove restaurant and an espresso bar.
In advance of the store's official opening, more than 1,500 guests attended a sold out gala on Wednesday night hosted by Nordstrom. The event raised more than $150,000 for Chrysalis and Children's Institute, Inc. Actress Angie Harmon served as the event's honorary chair and customers enjoyed an intimate performance by Grammy-winning songwriter and entertainer Michael Buble.
Opening day began at 8 a.m. with the Nordstrom Beauty Bash. Shoppers learned about the newest cosmetics and fragrances for the fall season, and enjoyed complimentary skincare consultations and makeup lessons from Nordstrom beauty advisors. Customers were greeted inside the doors by lines of enthusiastically cheering employees when the store opened at 10 a.m.
"Our employees can't wait to serve customers here in Santa Monica and offer them a great shopping experience," said Marcille Hughes, Nordstrom Santa Monica Place store manager. "We are thrilled to join Santa Monica Place, which combined with Third Street Promenade is a great shopping destination."

My Life: Sunny Morning, TV and a little Shopping
Happy March 1st, it's a beautiful sunny day (I guess depending on where you live) and it makes me excited for spring to get here. Seeing as though it's still snow outside (albeit, melting snow) it's not quite spring yet.
Is anyone watching the PR reality shows: Kell on Earth (Bravo) or The SPINdustry (E!)? I tried to watch them but I just can't seem to get into them. I guess I'm not a reality show person. The fashion PR industry really isn't doing that great and maybe these two shows will put a little spark back into it. I have a friend who worked for a Fashion PR company lose her job once the company had to down size.
What I have been watching lately is: Psych, Burn Notice, Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Cartoon Network) and Smallville. Some of my friends have been trying to get me to watch Chuck, who knows I might check it out.
Over the weekend, I went shopping and stopped by JCPenney (which had a great sale) and bought this really cute Charlotte Ronson 'I Heart Ronson' Trench Coat (see pictures below). I love it because you can also take the sleeves off for a totally different look. I also saw a pair of really cute d'Orsay open-toe pumps which I just might go back and get. I also stopped by the bookstore and bought a few books.

Marketers Are Not the Reason People Buy Things They Don't Want
Rant for the day by
Style and Focus Lifestyle PR
I am so tired of hearing that "Marketers are the reason people buy things they don't want". People buy things because they want to buy them and not from ads or anything else. A person can see hundreds of ads and not be inclined to make a purchase unless it's for something that they were already interested in or thinking about buying. Saying that marketers are the reason would mean that people mindlessly shop and just buy whatever is pitched regardless of whether they want it or not. There are numerous reason why someone would make a purchase for instance, some consumers buy things as a status symbol or because they are simply trying to impress others.
I'm not going to deny that there aren't some ads that can be misleading and for those, make sure you do your research so you can make the best decision for you (and read the fine print).
Marketers are not forcing customers to go into stores and purchase anything. The consumer has freewill to make decisions and figure out for themselves if this is what they really want. Yes, Marketers help in figuring out the best way for customers to see the product but they do not force anyone to buy.

Beauty: Buy a New Make-up Bag

You're a girl on the go, no doubt about that and the last thing you need holding you up is your make-up bag. This is probably a good time to replace your old make-up bag with the upcoming transition from summer to fall. What's absolutely great is there are so many different styles to choose from (ultra girly to urban sophisticate) but if you're a little on the disorganized side you may want to buy a clear plastic, zippered cosmetic bag to make it easier to find items.
If you're time crunched and Über Chic then you may want to buy a cosmetic bag that can double as an evening clutch. But if you travel a lot you may want to buy a weekend bag, train or travel case to place all of your beauty products and tools in without worrying about any broken or misplaced items.
