Mayonnaise Hair Treatment Results.

Yesterday, I tried the mayonnaise hair treatment. The results were: my hair felt soft and I was surprised because I was expecting it to feel greasy or a little crunchy but it turned out so much better than I was expecting. The only thing I'd do differently next time, is to apply more. I have thick medium length hair and I wasn't sure I applied enough.

I would say that this inexpensive treatment turned out great. I would definitely try it again. Makes me wonder why conditioners cost so much? Especially, if you can just go down the condiment aisle and pick up a jar of mayonnaise.

To create this look: Just center-part your hair using your fingers (a comb would make it too neat) and secure each side into a pigtail at the nape of your neck, loosening some pieces above the elastics and finger-teasing the tails to add volume.

Summer is not the time for complicated, overly-done hairstyles. You can still look amazing with a carefree, unstructured do, it conveys that you are laid-back but still glamorous. Below are four easygoing yet luxe hair styles for the hot days of summer.

Boho Braid



To create this look: distribute smoothing cream through damp hair, then blow-dry using a round brush. Make a deep side part. Take three sections from the part area and French braid across your hairline (leave some strands out near the front to weave in), says Adam Reed, the artistic director for Charles Worthington, who created this look. Secure with an elastic. Keep your unbraided tresses bouncy with a curl-reviving spray.



Casual-Chic Upsweep


A perfectly polished coif looks stiff with summer's carefree dresses and vibe. This one is glam in a worn-in kind of way. To create this look: Mist dry hair with a flexible-hold hair spray, then curl large sections of your mane using a wide-barrel iron.

Use a comb to tease your roots at the crown of your head, says Paris hairstylist Odile Gilbert, who created this look. Gently smooth out the top section of the teased area using a brush. Gather three-quarters of your hair into a low ponytail and secure with a pretty accessory, like this flower barrette.


The Tumbling Bun


A messy updo is the ultimate style when you want to keep your tresses out of your face but still look sexy. This undone version will last all night. To create this look: Scrunch a curl-enhancing mousse into damp locks, then let them air-dry, says Vivian Perez, a NYC stylists who created this look.

Gather your hair into a loose, low ponytail but don't pull it all the way through the elastic the last time you wrap it around, so it forms a loop. Leave out a few face-framing strands. Curl the front fuzziness.


Untamed Tresses


To create this look: Mist a thickening spray all over damp hair, then blow-dry while tousling with your fingers, says Perez.

Once your hair is dry, twirl random pieces around your finger, then wrap the twisted section around a curling iron. Don't coil up the top two inches closest to the roots, says Perez. Shake out all of the curls so they look extra piecey.

Beauty Pick: Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner

From time to time, I like to change up my shampoo and conditioner to try something new. A duo that I'm using now are the Nick Chavez Caviar Moisture Strengthening Shampoo ($18.00) and Conditioner ($20.00) from folica.com.

These two are gentle as well as moisturizing for my long thick and dry hair, and keeping it in good shape. I love that the conditioner doesn't leave a film or any residue and rinses out completely. These are little everyday luxuries for my hair.

A Hairspray to Tame Winter Hat Hair

I normally don't like to use hairspray but one that I use ocassionally is Kiehl's Climate-Proof Shine-Enhancing Non-Aerosol Spray ($14.50 for 8.4oz, kiehls.com). It has a medium to light flexible hold that doesn't make my hair feel hard or stiff. Plus, it also gives my hair a light glossy shine.

The good thing is you can use it no matter the weather condition, be it super hot or icy cold. During the winter, I like to spray a little to keep my hat hair under control or to spray my hair for an evening out.
